The company has sunk a lot of effort into building its XPS lineup of high-end desktops and notebooks for gamers and multimedia enthusiasts. Now, it looks like those systems compete with Alienware in certain areas, he said. Alienware sells very powerful and very expensive PCs to the top tier of the gaming market.
Dell, on the other hand, has a stronger identity with casual gamers who want a good PC but don't want to pay Alienware prices. Both companies have recently tried to appeal to gamers that fall in between those two groups, with Alienware reaching down and Dell reaching up, Kay said.
It's unclear how those strategies will continue. Be respectful, keep it civil and stay on topic. We delete comments that violate our policy , which we encourage you to read. Also check your CPU performance here and set it to high as well. Now what we want to do is punish this laptop through extreme gaming or application usage for an hour.
If everything is running fine and the fans are loud but cool, then shut the machine down, enter your BIOS and set your fan performance to the normal position. Reboot the machine, the fans will slow down considerably. Also check your performance settings in Windows. Find the "High Performance" setting usually under the Screen Saver stuff. Double check your setting to whatever you prefer.
You should have Active and passive. Set your setting to "Active. I do video and graphic works. Never a problem. This should help you just fine. Remember to do this cleaning about once a year unless you have cats and pets or live in a dusty place. Then about every 6 to 8 months. Hey I have 17xR4 as well have you had any issues the the fan controller? Dell told me it was a "software" issue and wants me to pay to have it fixed.
Any ideas on what i can do to fix it with out having to pay a stupid amount of cash? Thanks for posting this. So I thought I'd check out the forums to see if things have improved since I bought one.
I feel your pain. I'm in a similar situation, and like you, I too at the time of my purchase felt I had reached a whole new level of awesomeness when I ordered and received my Alienware 17 R3. It has been an utter disappointment since the inception of ordering it and owning it now for a lil over two years. I should of known better - my gut instincts told me to return it - but it's an Alienware! Currently, I've been in a customer service nightmare for the last month over mine - and that's with Premium Warranty support!
I've tried making my case here on the forums, like you, and you know what the Mods response has been - to quietly remove my post. No explanation. For Dell that lead time is generally less than 10 days, he said. Dell already sells high-end workstations under its XPS brand, but with the Alienware acquisition it gets something that the Round Rock, Texas-based company would have had a hard time creating on its own: gamer cachet.
Bajarin said it was unclear whether or not the company might discontinue its XPS systems, following the acquisition. The Alienware, of Miami, will continue to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of the PC maker, and will continue to develop, market, sell and support the Alienware products. One interesting side-effect of this structure is that it will give microprocessor vendor Advanced Micro Devices a foothold in Dell, which has to date resisted selling systems based on AMD's chips.
But according to a Dell spokesman, Alienware will be free to continue to sell whichever processors it chooses. Next Up In Gaming.
