Why do people wax snowboards

The factory wax tends to last less time than an iron on hot wax. Generally, you want to hot wax your board every 3 to 4 days of riding. This ensures better glide in varying snow conditions and an overall better performance. If you need something in between, you can use yellow wax. If you find yourself removing old wax from your board every time, or there is a lot of excess wax—use less next time. Mistake 2: Overheating your base by going over and over the same spot with the iron or leaving the iron in one spot for too long.

Generally, you want to set the temperature near degrees Fahrenheit a little warmer in a cold garage. Step 4: Drip the wax over base.

Step 5: Spread the wax using small circles or dragging the iron to melt the wax. You'll notice a little notch in the corner of your scraper. This is here to allow you to remove any excess wax from the edges of your board. The final step is to take a softer structuring brush and buff out the base so it looks smooth and professional. Starting at one edge, firmly brush the base from nose to tail.

Continue this process until you have covered the whole board. Structuring the base like this puts tiny grooves into the wax that help reduce friction.

STEP 3: Wax Scraping Once the board has cooled down and the wax has become solid, grab your scraper, holding it at roughly 45 degrees to the board , and begin to scrape the wax off.

STEP 4: Buffing The final step is to take a softer structuring brush and buff out the base so it looks smooth and professional. Subscribe to our newsletter Sign up to be notified of promotions, deals, new products, competitions and cool stuff! Your email.

You may see discoloration near your edges, if the base of your snowboard is black, it will be clearly visible when the edges are drying out as you will see a white discoloration. If you can't tell from just looking, you are also able to feel when your base is dry by scratching your nail on the bottom of your snowboard. If you scratch your base and you leave a faint line on the snowboard, it is evidence that you do in fact have wax on the bottom of your snowboard.

Before the iron goes anywhere near your base, make sure to loosen off or fully remove your bindings. Clean the base. Make sure that any old wax and dirt is removed from the base so that the fresh wax can be absorbed properly.

This can either be done by using a base cleaner and cloth, or by the hot scrape method. A hot scrape involves using an iron to apply a thin layer of hot wax and then immediately scraping it off while the wax is still warm in order to get rid of any grime from the pores.

Once finished, wipe over the base with a cloth to remove any remaining residue. Pick your wax. Melt the wax.
