And whether you worship a job, achievement, money, or a person, you are doing so to your detriment. At some point, the object of your worship will fail to come through for you. Perhaps the best way to illustrate what happens when we worship is to look at the worship experience of one of God's prophets recorded in Isaiah 6.
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. First, worship brings an upward look , a glance at God on His throne in all His glory. It refocuses our view of God. It pulls our affections off our idols and puts them onto God.
It causes us to remember how good He is, how big, kind, powerful, and loving He is, and how holy He is. With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for" v. When you see God for who He really is, as Isaiah did, you start to see yourself for who you really are. You start seeing things in your heart and in your life that really didn't bother you before.
But notice that after Isaiah saw and confessed his sinfulness, he also experienced the mercy, grace, and forgiveness of God. That's what happens when you really worship. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? In other words, worship is a two-way communication.
We come into His presence by loving, adoring and exalting Him. He then makes Himself known by communicating His Love and His inspiration and revelation back to us. This, of course, results in inexpressible joy for us. This daily communion is what allows us to endure difficult circumstances. If we are hearing from the Lord and keeping our eyes only on Him, we can withstand anything. The goal and purpose of worship is to magnify, exalt, love and adore the only true God, Jesus Christ.
When we worship, we join the angels , the cherubim , the seraphim , the prophets , the apostles and the host of heaven falling down on their faces and exalting the one and only true God. Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might be unto our God forever and ever. I truly believe that if the Body of Christ were really taught how to genuinely worship, it would revolutionize the Church!
Noah worshiped God, and as a result a brand new creation was born. Genesis ,18 ; — Abraham built an altar and worshiped the Lord and, again, a whole nation resulted. Genesis Moses worshiped the Lord, and because of his obedience, God freed an entire people from the bondage of slavery.
Sinai , he prayed, interceded, wept and pleaded with God, but he never worshiped. In other words, Exodus is the first mention of him worshiping the Lord. You can pick your kids up from school in a way that shares the glory of Jesus with the world around you. You can do all of these things to the glory of the Lord. And as you fix your eyes upon Him, asking Him to give you grace to remain fixed upon Him, this wonderful transformation occurs. You become what you behold. That is the life of worship.
